Camryn Grimes
Whaaat? Fans of CBS's The Young and the Restless got a Valentine's Day surprise when it was revealed that the ghost of Cassie Newman, played by Emmy winner Camryn Grimes, isn't a ghost after all but a lookalike imposter who is very much alive. What's more, the conniving cutie is in cahoots with that Machiavellian menace Victor Newman (Eric Braeden).
What's going on here? TV Guide Magazine spoke with Grimes about this super-secret plot twist hoping to get something, anything. Just give us a crumb!
TV Guide Magazine: We know Ghost Cassie appeared when her mentally unstable mother Sharon [Sharon Case] was off her meds. But who's Fake Cassie?
Grimes: You're not going to find out exactly who she is for quite a while — but it's pretty out there. She's a very ballsy character. You'll be surprised at the nature of her relationship with Victor.
He doesn't want his son, Nick [Joshua Morrow], reuniting with Sharon, so Victor is working with Fake Cassie to make sure that doesn't happen.
TV Guide Magazine: How? By making it seem like Sharon is nuts and seeing ghosts? And, then what? Nick will dump her?
Grimes: That's the initial plan. But then they find out Sharon has an explosive secret — one Victor can really use.
They don't know what the secret is, but they know it must be something pretty big.
TV Guide Magazine: Were you shocked to learn there was life beyond Ghost Cassie?
Grimes: Totally. I heard rumors that the storyline might be changing, that somehow I would be continuing on the show. I had all these ideas going through my head but I was thinking of the obvious things, like maybe Cassie had a twin sister nobody knew about — all the obvious soap stuff.
But what the writers came up with is so much fun and so unexpected. I love it! And I'm really excited to be working with Eric Braeden.
This new character has so much potential to go all over the place. I'm looking forward to the reaction from the audience as it all unfolds.
TV Guide Magazine: And now you finally get to change clothes!
Grimes: Don't get me wrong. I love Ghost Cassie's little pink sweater. I just didn't know I'd be wearing it for a hundred million episodes.
[Laughs] I've been in that thing since way last summer!
